A storm the previous day blew these colorful leaves to the ground. Many have not yet fully turned and those that have were in various stages of decay resulting in a dazzling array of colors, patterns, and textures. A slight drizzle of rain and the overcast light provided for the perfect circumstances to capture this scene in soft diffused light and a few raindrops scattered on the leaves. I have made countless Fall color images in these mountains before, many with sweeping vistas and trees glowing in firey yellow, orange, and pink. Still - of all the Fall images in my collection, this one stirs my soul like no other. I love looking at it closely, losing myself in the fine detail, exploring symmerty and chaos, color and lines and shapes. It is always among the first images I like to share with anyone who shows interest in my photography. Utah, US / October 2003 |
