Personally I love "luminous" media for photography -- slides, 4x5 trannies, projectors and high-quality flat panel screens.

It's not quite there yet in terms of DPI/PPI, but I enjoy looking at my photos more on a high resolution screen than as a print, at least until I look close for more detail that isn't there. . .

To be honest, CMYK printing has gotten much better.
SWOP3, GRACoL-1, and G7 standards have lassoed in the wild west of printing. Sure, sRGB, Adobe98, etc have larger gamuts, and monitors have much more contrast and detail. But CMYK has come a long way. I have profile in particular, created for specifically for Kohler, that took 2 weeks of iterations, but produces amazing color on sheetfed coated stock.

I held the iPad for the first time two days ago. The photos look quite good. The calibration on it wasn't half bad.

I'm running Zenfolio on my iPhone. I assume it works well on the iPad as well. By the way, CFA-DAM site should run on the iPad as well (via safari or Opera Mini browser). You could sit in a local bistro, and order a hi-res file off to several vendors around the world, with a few clicks.

As Mark says...if iPhone OS4 will support ICC profiles
than there must be an app for that...

I don't have to worry about ROI as I just "WON one"
at my local MUG the other night ;)
Haven't opened it yet tho.. Waiting to decide if
I want to upgrade at all....First ~ ya know..

But Yeah.. this is exactly the reason I REFUSED TO BY A KINDLE.
and now Oprah has told all of her Book Club folks to
get one and they can transfer their books from the Kindle to it..
Bezos must be going crazy...or NOT making that Laugh..LOL

I think it will be VERY successful...
they already had a 99 year old lady on TV tonight
that had never owned a computer using it that says
she LOVES it... so it will Open up a whole new Audience ♥

Happy Earth Day everyone.. ♥ Great Battery Life also ♥

One other thing—you shouldn't be too hard on the CMYK model itself, but rather the CMKY model as it is realized in offset printing and the like. Color slide film, for example, uses CMY color dyes and can have a pretty nice gamut for capturing the colors in nature.

I feel your pain with CMYK.

Regarding the iPad, iPhone OS 4 will support icc profiles, which suggest that the iPad will as well, if it doesn't already.

I have to agree with you Guy, the iPad has huge potential for color photography publishing outlet. The iPad is primarily a media consumption device. The issue is how to build an app that isn't just for your photography or how to make it appealing enough for a larger audience so that you have positive ROI.

I picked up the iPad over a week ago and have been using it on a number of fronts. It does make a great electronic portfolio; I just wish more of the online hosting services would build apps for it (so far the SmugMug app works great, but I'm moving away from SmugMug due to lack of stock sales support).

Look for a review on my blog(s) with a rather broad set of thoughts (photography wise and other) in the near future...
