Week 6 of 10 Winner: Adam Baker

| June 6, 2011

Many thanks to everyone who submitted their work for last week’s theme: Nature in Monochrome. As before, the choice was an extremely difficult one. Other than the challenge of naming just one winner, a couple of very promising entries were regrettably disqualified for not adhering to all contest rules. Please read them carefully if you intend to submit your work for the remaining themes!

As expected, most entries this week were in B&W, however some of you took the literal meaning of “monochrome” (single color) and submitted superb color images to match the theme. Bravo to you for taking the creative route!

The winning image by Adam Baker was picked for its exquisite composition and use of graphical elements such as lines, curves, use of light and tone to create a compelling experience without relying on color. Here’s Adam’s winning image:

For his winning entry, Adam will receive an original signed print, a free 1-year membership to Nature Photographer’s Network, and a $20 gift certificate from Outdoor Photo Gear. Adam will also be entered into the final round for a chance to win a signed copy of my book Exposures, an F-Stop backpack, and a $100 gift certificate towards lens rental from BorrowLenses.com.

Don’t miss Week 7′s theme: Nature’s Narratives

As before, here’s a random sampling of the runners-up:

Rafal Goraczniak Olivier Du Tre Matthew Cromer Matt Ludin Manoj Vallati Mac Danzig Larry Monczka John Fujimagari Jesse Estes Alister Benn

Adam, that is one of the best images I’ve ever seen in B&W. I’m not usually a fan, but your photo could win among B&W or color entries. Great job!
