Back Home
I spent nearly two weeks traveling through Nevada and California. Coming home to my little desert town of Torrey always feels wonderful, no matter where I’ve been, and this time is no exception. The large cottonwoods along Main Street greeted me with a warm golden glow. The tourists are mostly gone and despite the sunny weather, a chill is already in the air and winter will not be far behind.
Earlier this week I joined forces with Jack Graham to lead a wonderful group workshop in the Eastern Sierra. We spent time among the aspens, on the shores of Mono Lake, in the ghost town of Bodie, the Ancient Bristlecone Pine forest and the Alabama Hills. It was a whirlwind tour but well worth the early mornings and long drives. I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to the great group of folks who joined us and produced some superb and creative works.
I am currently catching up on email and realized that I may have accidentally deleted a few recent messages. If you wrote me in the last 2-3 weeks and have not received a response, please accept my apologies and re-send your note.
It also came to my attention that my site may have been hacked while I was away. I suspect the cause was an old WordPress theme I was using. The theme author had been unresponsive to support requests so, as you may have noticed, I switched to an alternate one until the issue is resolved.
While I was away I had the great pleasure of reviewing a new iPhone/iPad app from friend and photographer Michael Frye. Some of you may know Michael as the author of The Photographer’s Guide to Yosemite – a must-have book for anyone visiting the park. The new app puts all the information in the book and more in the palm of your hand, making it all the more versatile. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Yosemite. You can read more about it at the iTunes store.
And, for those of you heading to Arches National Park, a new guide eBook by my friend Bret Edge is well worth buying. Not only does it contain invaluable information for those wishing to photograph the park, but it is also one of the most beautifully designed eBooks I have seen, giving you both useful information and a digital coffee-table book in one title.
Today will be spent fulfilling print orders and processing a few images. Watch this space for new essays and musings in the next couple of weeks!
