Canyon bottoms collect anything fallen, swept, washed and dropped within its drainage. Riparian canyons offer verdant respite to many plants and trees, and a resting place for leaves and other ephemera. In the warm seasons the dance of light and water offers mesmerizing patterns; during the autumn months, iridescent biofilm covers the shallow pools, which later freeze in fantastic patterns.
